Jesus is walking beside me
Barefoot, I walk along the beach —
My thoughts are disturbed and full of fear.
I am walking alone — all alone.
The wavelets make little, lazy patterns around my feet …
But I am not alone!
There is another pair of feet beside mine —
Wonderingly, I look up —
Jesus is walking beside me!
I walk along through the wavelets.
He is walking on top
We walk along together — just He and I.
Jesus is walking beside me!
Why should I fear the darts and swords of men?
Why should I fear the pin-prick of their tongues?
Why should I fear their javelins and thrusts?
Jesus is walking beside me!
Our feet now make hollow footprints in the sand.
I place a foot on His footprint.
I look up at Him and smile.
His is way too big for mine!
Jesus is walking beside me!
He places a foot over my footprint,
Answering my smile, tenderly,
Caressingly, this Brother of mine.
Jesus is walking beside me!
My footprint is submerged under His —
Is merged with His — is one with His!
There is a song in my heart, a song of love …
Jesus is walking beside me.
We walk on top of the waves —
On top of the waves of life — we two together.
We are not afraid — my big Brother and I!
Jesus is walking beside me.
