Franciscan Saints for June
Blessed Raymond Lull, martyr, III Order
Feast Day June 30 (1235-1315)
Raymond Lull was born in Palma in the Balearic Islands about the year 1235. Divesting himself of all wordly possessions he
joined the Third Order as tradition reports. In his zeal for souls he was instrumental in founding a college to give suitable
training for missionaries. Because of his writing on almost all branches of human learning he was called Enlightened Doctor.
After his arrival in Bougie in Africa he suffered imprisonment and was almost stoned to death. Put on board a ship half dead
he reached Majorca and died on June 29, 1315.

Pope Benedict XVI has declared a “Year for Priests” beginning with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 19, 2009.
The year will conclude in Rome with an international gathering of priests with the Holy Father on June 19, 2010.
With the announcement of this Year for Priests, the Pope has declared St. John Vianney the Universal Patron of Priests on
the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of the Curé d’Ars. At http://www.usccb.org/yearforpriests/index.shtml, you will
find a number of resources to aid your parish’s celebration of the year for priests. There is also information regarding events for priests
that will occur throughout the Year for Priests.
Please pray for our priests that they might always be faithful to their sacred calling.
“Let everyone be struck with fear, let the whole world
tremble, and let the heavens exult when Christ, the Son
of the living God, is present on the altar in the hands of a
priest!” – St. Francis of Assisi
Please Pray for Priests
Dear Lord,
we pray that the BlessedMother
wrap her mantle around your priests
and through her intercession
strengthen them for their ministry.
We pray that Mary will guide your priests
to follow her own words,
“Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5).
May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph,
Mary’s most chaste spouse.
May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart
inspire them to embrace
all who suffer at the foot of the cross.
May your priests be holy,
filled with the fire of your love
seeking nothing but your greater glory
and the salvation of souls.
Amen.
Saint John Vianney, pray for us.

Excerpt from the… ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI TO THE FRANCISCAN FAMILY
TAKING PART IN THE INTERNATIONAL "CHAPTER OF MATS"
Courtyard of the Papal Summer Residence, Castel Gandolfo
Saturday, 18 April 2009
Dear friends, the last word I wish to leave you with is the same word that the Risen Jesus consigned to his disciples:
"Go!" (cf. Mt 28: 19); Mk 16: 15). Go, and continue to "repair the house" of the Lord Jesus Christ, his Church. A
few days ago the earthquake that struck the Abruzzo seriously damaged many churches and you of Assisi know well
what this means.
But there is another "ruin" which is far more serious: that of people and communities! LikeFrancis, always begin with yourselves. We are the first house that God wants to restore.
If you are always ableto renew yourselves in the spirit of the Gospel you will continue to help the Pastors of the Church to make her face
as Christ's Bride ever more beautiful. This is what the Pope expects of you, today, as at the outset. Thank you for
coming! Go now and take the peace and love of Jesus Christ the Saviour to all. MayMary Immaculate, "the Virgin
made Church" (cf. Greeting to the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1: FF, 259), always go with you. And may the Apostolic
Blessing which I warmly impart to all of you present here and to the entire Franciscan Family sustain you always.
